Dr. Laura Vraney received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology (ISPP) in Chicago, IL, with a specialized focus on family systems theory. Prior to, Dr. Vraney completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) in Milwaukee, WI, with a Psychology major and minors in Biology and Sociology.
Dr. Vraney has an array of clinical experience in a variety of treatment settings, including hospitals, community mental health, and college counseling centers. She completed an American Psychological Association Accredited (APA) pre-doctoral internship at SouthShore Mental Health Center in Quincy, MA. Additionally, Dr. Vraney fulfilled a rotation at the adult psychiatric partial hospital and inpatient unit at McLean Southeast Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Middleboro, MA. Within these forums, Dr. Vraney worked with a multidisciplinary team, primarily treating adolescents and adults. Common presenting problems included depression, bipolar, anxiety, life transitions, suicidality, self-harm, personality disorders, identity development, and trauma. (See Specialties)
Dr. Vraney pursued her post-doctoral fellowship at the Klarman Eating Disorders Center at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Belmont, MA. On the residential and partial levels of care, she specialized in working with young adults diagnosed with an eating disorder and co-occurring diagnoses of anxiety, depression, substance use, and/or trauma. Dr. Vraney has worked as a crisis consultant for Putnam Hospital's emergency department in Carmel, NY addressing a diverse range of acute and chronic presentations. This also included case management and interdisciplinary collaboration. Aside from clinical work, as a military family member herself, Dr. Vraney has traveled with the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program (YRRP) for the United States Army Reserve and National Guard providing education on mental health and deployment for service members and their families.
In addition to private practice, Dr. Vraney volunteers as a council member of the non-for-profit organization Campus Bound Scholars (CBS) and provides clinical advice and support to the board of directors, mentors, and first-generation college students. Dr. Vraney is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), and International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP).
As a Wisconsin native, Dr. Vraney is a devoted Green Bay Packers fan, enjoys seasonal festivities, and spending time with family and friends!
